This was a oddly challenging project for me. The quilt is so pretty – and as soon as I saw it, the ideas started coming. The challenge was that I was to keep the quilting simple and open. I did come up with a free-hand design that I really liked. The challenge was that I spent more time un-quilting with my seam ripper than actually quilting. I am happy with the finished design. What I learned from this project – some days you just have to walk away and come back to it later.
Bits & Pieces
Bible cases
One of the greatest joys in my life is teaching the Toddler Sunday School class at our church. When they are 4 they “graduate” up to the next class. We have two sweet little girls moving up. Each year I make a Bible case with a handle and our church purchases the children a new Bible. I try to match the bag with the child’s personality.
A finish
This was a really fun project for me to do. I had some de-construction to do first. The customer had pieced the top and started hand quilting it – but it ended up as a dust collector in the closet.
I spent about a week (or two) pulling out hand quilting stitches while watching T.V. in the evenings with the family. I ended up using two battings. She had a very thin poly batting that I put on top of a cotton batting. This gives a nice “puff” to the quilting. I hope she loves it as much as I do.
Vacation – um, no
I know, it may look like I have been on vacation and not working on the blog. Well… no vacation.. I have a new job and have been in training. Once the dust settles, I will get back to sewing!!!
300th Post
I thought it would be fun to do a give-away as a way to celebrate.
I will be giving one person a copy of my Bling pattern. All you have to do is leave a comment about what quilts/quilting means to you. Quilting has made such a huge impact on my life and would love to hear some of your stories.
