Bits & Pieces

Revisiting Bling – 2.1

Published on 08/10/13

I so enjoyed working with this pattern again that I pulled out another set of fabrics. I had a “theme” fabric that I wanted to use in the extra blocks – I love the tan and blue color scheme.

I did have a little trouble deciding the block setting and ended up designing another block to go with it.

I really like the final layout – should be fun quilting since it has a good amount of open space!

A challenging finish

Published on 08/07/13

This customer quilt has been one of my most challenging so far. New attached image She pieced a cream block on the back to line up with the one on the front. Unfortunately….. they were not quite the same size and lining them up on the long-arm was quite difficult. So, I did my best and went for it. I am pleased with the quilting/design in the pieced border and the quilting looks really pretty on her pieced backing. New attached image New attached image New attached image New attached image

Revisiting Bling

Published on 08/06/13

I decided to make another small quilt using my “Bling” pattern. I only had fat quarters – so I decided to just make the four blocks and then decided to use up the rest of the fat quarters for the borders.

I had a hard time deciding what setting to use – so I took a few pictures to help me see the 2 settings.

A Wedding Quilt

This is a customer’s quilt that is about 30 years in the making. She had friends embroider/cross-stitch blocks and then assembled them into a top.

I added the blue border – she had planned to use for a backing, but several large areas had faded too badly. The backing ended up being an unbleached muslin.

This was a challenge to quilt as I had to pick a design that would not over-whelm the beautiful handwork. I ended up using a very fine thread for the quilting in these blocks and it worked beautifully.

My favorite part of the quilting is the center – it makes a cross design accented with feathered hearts.

I really like the muslin backing – it shows off the quilting so nice and is really soft. New attached image New attached image New attached image New attached image

A finish

This quilt is the last of Cena’s Christmas quilts. I think this may be my favorite of the four. The red flannel on the back made the quilting look Yummy!
