Frog quilt pieced

Published on 08/08/11

I finally got the frog quilt pieced. It had been pinned to the design wall all summer and I had made no attempts at completing it. Every time I thought about working on it – I just could not make myself pick it up and get going on it. My husband told me to just take it down for awhile and work on something that excited me. Well, at one time I was so excited about THIS quilt. I guess his “reverse psychology” worked on me and I finished piecing it in just 3 days.

Now, I get to think about the quilting and may even get it done in time for the PQG 2012 quilt show.

Pensacola Quilter’s Guid 2012 Show Quilt

Published on 08/08/11

Several months ago I finished quilting our quilt guild’s fundraiser quilt. This last month we had the “reveal” at the meeting – so here is the promised picture. I am so glad that I got to be part of designing, piecing and quilting this amazing quilt.

Where did the month go?

Published on 08/08/11

I can not believe that it has been about a month since the last post. I was so trying to get one up every week – Oh well. I wish I could say that I have just been laying out on the beach…...

but that is not the case.

We had the last week of sewing class last Monday and finished off with a bang. I had such a great group of girls this summer and they all accomplished great things!

One of the sewing camps made diaper bags and other baby related stuff which all makes great gifts. Here are two of the finished bags. I think I will make one of these bags for me. I love the deep outer pockets and the button on the top.

I also found an adorable pattern for baby booties on the Martha Stewart website. I changed the pattern a little because I didn’t like the top strap. I measured a friends new baby to make the slippers for. I should have added an extra inch because in a weeks time she had already outgrown them. Grrrrrr!

Bags, bags and more bags!

Published on 07/05/11

I found all of my hand-dyed and painted small pieces this past week. I did them about a year ago and they have all been waiting for “inspiration” to hit.

I have had such fun quilting these small pieces. It lets me just play and try inter-mixing different quilting designs.

They all will be available in our store.

Emilie took all of these pictures for me – I think she did a great job!

My favorite piece to work on was the grey/black marbled fabric. I used grey thread to trace the elements in the marbling – so fun!

I am in a Zippered bag craze

Published on 06/30/11

I have been in a creative mood but with a short attention span – so I have been making some zippered bags. They will all be available for purchase in our store.

This bag has some dimension piecing. The multicolored fabric was folded into pleats and then stitched to the red. It is lined with a bright, heart print.

This bag was pieced from scraps left over from my Evening in Times Square quilt (pictured below) that I made several years ago. I love doing improvisational piecing and the fabrics were so fun to play with again. It is lined with a soft blue floral print.

This bag would make a fabulous clutch. It was pieced from corner units that had been trimmed off of a snowball block. The lining is a multi-colored and black stripe.

The piece of fabric for this bag was hand-dyed using a shaving cream marbling technique. I often do this with paint, but I was at a class and we used thickened dyes instead. My kids use this type of bag for their school pencil case – I use it for my scissors when going to classes. It is lined with a bright yellow batik.
