Bits & Pieces

Vacation project – the chair

Published on 01/23/15

Emilie has been waiting at least year for me to recover he chair – it may be closer to 2 years. With my work schedule, I did not want to tackle a project and then not get it done before my next shift. I had no idea that it would get done so quickly.

I looked at a lot of tutorials on-line and felt like I could tackle a slip cover style. It only took me about 5 hours – with Garrett helping me staple around the bottom edge. So much for my excuses. New attached image New attached image I decided to not remove the old upholstery as it was still in good shape and not smelly. This cut down on the time factor a ton. Fabric dolls – Christmas presents

Published on 01/22/15

I do not “make” Christmas presents very often because I hate having a hard deadline around the holidays – but my kids drew the little girl cousins to get gifts for. The girls are both about 2 years old and I had seen some pictures of fabric dolls online that I had fallen in love with. New attached image My favorite is the doll with the glasses, coat and dress – the coat and dress can come off. New attached image New attached image New attached image Each of the girls got 2 dolls. The skirt on the green dolls comes off. New attached image New attached image It was so much fun to get my special fabrics off the top shelf and use them.

Vacation project – the kids bathroom

Published on 01/21/15

Pintest is now the dreaded word in my house. I looked at ideas for the kid’s bathroom for about a month – but we ended up with something really pretty. New attached image I wanted some cool art for in the vanity room. I was thinking about doing some vintage botanical prints but I could not find any that I liked. I was at the bookstore looking and found a beautiful “Alice and Wonderland” book for $5 on sale. It was perfect! I also hit a sale on the frames that I painted cream. The artwork ended up costing about $30 total for 5 amazing “prints”. New attached image Mark stained and put about 6 heavy coats of polyurethane on the new countertop. I ordered the vessel sink on-line. I love the clean look of the now cream cabinet and teal walls. For storage I found 2 wall cubbies for the kids to put all of their bathroom stuff – so everything has it’s place. We left them on the counter behind the sink instead of putting them up on the wall. New attached image And to think the whole idea was based on one piece of fabric – this time the shower curtain. I have no idea how many stores I took this piece of fabric into. New attached image

Vintage linen with deep purple border – finished

Published on 01/18/15

This beautiful linen is done! I really like how it turned out. Getting a picture of the border is difficult since it is so dark – the purple thread adds texture but not a lot of color. There is a sheen to the thread, so it looks nice when the light hits it.

I am going to offer this quilt for sell in the store.
