Bits & Pieces

Vintage linen with deep purple border

Published on 10/31/14

This beautiful hand embroidered linen was so fun to work with.

I am still learning how to stabilize the linen before doing all the quilting – it is getting better, but not perfect yet.

The hand embroidery of this piece is so pretty and it opened up so many possibilities for the quilting.

Bunny Panel – customer quilt back

Published on 10/25/14

I love that I got to use a solid back for this quilt. The quilting always looks so pretty.

I do not know why the purple looks different in each picture. =(

Bunny Panel – customer quilt top

Published on 10/22/14

This sweet quilt uses a panel to set off a class sample. The class was using a fusible base to piece small squares together. This offered up a challenge to me as this area was much stiffer than the rest of the top. My concern was that the thread would break as I went through the fusible/pieced seams – but there were not any problems.

I placed feathers in the panel pieces, orange peel in the class sample and a fun design with feathers in the border.

Black Border String Pieced customer quilt

Published on 10/21/14

This quilt was made by one of my quilting friends and her grand-daughter. I had the privilege to quilt it for them.

I used an all over flower feather for the quilt center due to the busy piecing/design. The black and blue border was quilted with a blue thread.

Wedding ring – customer quilt finished

Published on 10/17/14

This was such a fun quilt. I was not given a deadline so there was no pressure. It took about an hour to quilt the “eye” row and about 1 1/2 hours for the larger white piece row. The continuous quilting pattern helped with the time a lot.

I have never quilted a wedding ring quilt before and the customer wanted the quilting to feel traditional. I incorporated several designs together – repeating the designs create a wonderful harmony.

The customer was really happy with the finished quilt.
