I had the great opportunity to quilt this beautiful quilt for the Mobile Quilter’s Guild. It is the Opportunity quilt for their 2017 quilt show. The quilt features many different types of appliqué techniques. It is not the color palette that I usually work with so I actually had to buy some thread. =) I used a double layer of 80/20 batting which gave the quilt such wonderful texture. This really helped the quilting “pop” in areas where the fabric was busy. I loved the white space in the border.
Bits & Pieces
The backing – Gordon’s Quilt
I had a little difficulty deciding what color backing to use – I was going to use a dark grey but they did not have enough on the bolt. I actually think the lighter grey was a better fit anyway – especially with the tread I decided to use. The double batting (80/20) makes a huge difference in seeing the quilting texture – I love it!
Quilting finished – Gordon’s Quilt
I love everything about this quilt – the solid fabrics, the lovely quilting texture and the amazing feeling behind this kind and heartfelt gift.
Starting the quilting – Gordon’s Quilt
I had two goals for quilting this quilt: texture and meaningfulness. Jackie gave me a list of some quilting ideas. to stay focused, I used one color of thread throughout – a medium grey. I used a double layer of 80/20 batting to provide the highest level of texture I could. A quilt for Brenna
In August, we took a quick trip to Texas to see Mark’s family. I had just finished a quilt and wanted to get the binding done on the trip. What I didn’t know is that my niece would be leaving for college in a few weeks and did not have a quilt for her dorm. Peggy, my mother-in-law, saw the quilt and bought it for her. Amazingly, I finished the binding in time to leave it there. What was great for me is that I finally finished a quilt that had been started more than 5 years ago. Initially I had started this quilt for Emilie but then she changed her mind and went with a grey color scheme for her room. I do not usually work with batiks, so this quilt sat for quite awhile. I am so glad it has a new home and it is FINISHED.
