Bits & Pieces

Blue Ribbons

Published on 04/12/08

I was very excited to get 2 Blue ribbons (1st place) at the quilt show. The Evening in Times Square quilt and the Poppy quilt each got 1st place for the size category. Evening in Times Square also got an honorable mention in the theme category – New York Beauty block. The Poppy quilt got a special award, judge’s recognition, for the best small quilt, good use of color and quilting designs. The Curves I got a third place.

I had so much fun at the show. I spent one of the days machine quilting a community quilt. It was so much fun talking with quilters from all over.

Pensacola Quilter’s Guild Show Week

Published on 03/24/08

Well the week of the show is finally here! Our judge Sarah Madson is giving a trunk show tonight and then again later this week. I was able to submit 4 quilts into the show. Thursday night we are going to have a reception and then the members of the guild can preview the show for an hour. With about 200 quilts to see, it will be hard to see them all. Hopefully, I will win a ribbon since I spent so much of the past year working on them (the ribbons).

Inchies

Published on 02/19/08

This past week I took a break from all of the upcoming quilt show activity and played with fabric. I have kept most of the snippets from making the show ribbons and sandwiched them between some batting and toile. I have been waiting to have a little free time to make some “inchies”. These 1 1/2 inch “bits of love” are going to be made into pins, keychains and other fun things. Here are some of the 50+ that I am working on. It also gave me a good excuse to get my beads back out!

New Year

Published on 01/11/08

What a great month it has been. We spent a week in Indianapolis and a week in Kansas City. The kids sure had fun with the cousins.

Now it is time to buckle down and get my show quilts completed. I am entering 4 into the Pensacola Quilter’s Guild show in March. I am hoping to get one of them into the AQS Nashville show.

Hopefully next time I will have some pics to put up.

Thanksgiving 2007

Published on 11/26/07

We had such a good week!

Monday evening I presented a machine quilting program to the Pensacola Quilter’s Guild. I think I talked for about 1 1/2 hours but could have gone much longer. I have so much fun talking about quilting and showing some of the fun things I have been able to do with it. My mom was able to come with me to the meeting.

Mom and I had fun trying some non-traditional things this week. She made a really cool piece of fabric using muslin for the base, then elmers white glue to adhere tissue paper and a few vinca flowers from the garden. The end result was very cool and flexible enough to stitch through. I discovered that you can stamp and emboss directly on fabric – a very cool effect. The embossing heat tool can also be used to burn organza!

We also made a very non-traditional dinner on Thanksgiving day. With an abundance of fresh seafood from the Gulf, we had shrimp, fish and crab claws. We are making the Turkey this week. :)
