Vacation

kids in tire

We are safely in Indianapolis for the week. The trip (13+ hours) was fairly uneventful except for having to buy 2 new tires. The pictures of the stop in Alabama will be a good memory for us and the people that helped us were so nice.

The scenery at my Mom’s house is so great. She has a view of her back garden from her sewing room and the back screened-in porch. The weather is so nice that it is hard to leave the porch.

Sewing Lessons

Published on 05/24/09

The kids are out of school!! Now I have to find things to keep them occupied. They are all very “crafty” and have played in my fabric scraps sine they were little. My youngest has been asking for sewing lessons – so we started yesterday. We are going to make a small child’s quilt for our church nursery. He is piecing together 4 inch squares.

Painted faces

Published on 05/20/09

I was able to take a class from my friend Angie this past weekend. She taught us how to take a photograph and work with it to make a hand painted portrait on fabric. She supplied us with everything we needed. I have never learned so much in one day. She had a prepared “face” for us to practice with. We used Tsukineko inks for this project.

New Curved quilt

I have started my next large quilt. Mark helped me dye the red, green and grey fabrics – now on to the piecing. Here is the first picture. I will be putting the rest of my progress in the gallery section under new projects. I hope you come back to see my progress.

New things

Published on 05/08/09

I started dying fabrics for my newest project. Mark helped me with mixing the colors. He is used to mixing paints – so this was a snap for him and he is patiently teaching me. My friend Angie, who does some wonderful things with paint and dyes on fabric, suggested that I stick my brush in the dye color that I was using to see what the color would end up being. I started a journal page that had the color brushed on as well as the ingredient ratio. I will glue a small snip of fabric next to it after washing it.
