Wedding Quilt – Part 2

Published on 10/27/11

The wedding was this past weekend, and I FINISHED the quilt on time. I was sewing the label on Friday night. Emilie and I got to go and help get the food together for the reception. It ended up being a whole day affair for us, which was quite fun. I love making quilts as a special gift!

Birthday Wishes

My oldest turns 15 today. She is such a beautiful person inside and out. I can not believe how fast the time has flown! I am so very thankful for the daughter I have been blessed with and how she is turning into a wonderful woman.

Thought it would be fun to have some then … and now pictures.

2011 Christmas Project

Published on 10/17/11

For the past 2 years our family has made the decision to for-go our personal gifts and sponsor another family. Two years ago, with the help of several ladies from my church, we made 7 children’s quilts for a family who had taken in 4 foster children right before the holidays. Last year, we decided to anonymously give gifts to a family going through crisis – which of course included quilts and a stuffed animal.

This year, I have been burdened to make quilts for the children affected by the Alabama tornados earlier this year. Our church has been collecting house goods, furniture and clothing that they are taking up later this month. My goal is to make 20 quilts by Christmas and donate them to this area.

I have 2 quilts completed, as well as 2-3 un-quilted quilt tops made. I am hoping for a lot of help, because I know this task can not been done by just one person. My family has all decided to pitch in, which means helping clean the house and helping with basting! I am going to include the girls from the PinCushion Club (a sewing group of girls that meets with me once a month) to help with this project and hopefully get several of the ladies in my church involved. If you are in the Pensacola area and would like to participate, please contact me and I will let you know what days we are going to meet for sewing days.

Wedding Quilt – Part 1

Published on 10/17/11

Sorry – so long between posts. I have once again decided on a major project at the last minute. A sweet couple in our church is getting married. There are circumstances that compelled me to make a special quilt for them. So with just a month to come up with an idea, piece and quilt a “wedding quilt”, everything else has been put on hold.

I decided to use an old pattern – the old fashioned wedding ring block which is also called the crown of thorns block (yes, I had to shake my head at that – but I love the block). Her favorite flowers are purple hydrangea and I just happened to have the perfect fabric in my stash.

The quilt ended up being about 60 inches square. Just big enough for them to cuddle. Thankfully they are both quite thin. =)

I finished the quilting today – the wedding is in 5 days, which is plenty of time to get the binding and label on!
