Bits & Pieces

Gift for “G”

Published on 08/14/12

I have made a few quilts and other things for my new niece who is to be born in October. Instead of grossly misspelling her name, I am simply calling her “G” until I get the confirmation from my brother.

I had great fun working on this quilt. I love the oddly shaped blocks and piecing. I also LOVE the fabrics in this.

I quilted this on the long-arm and am really happy how it turned out.

Where has the summer gone?

Published on 08/14/12

I can not believe it has been over a month since my last blog post. Not to worry, I have quite busy quilting. The Beast (long-arm) and I have bonded and I am actually loving the learning.

Here is just the tip of the iceberg in what I have been doing.

A few more postcards….

O was for Octopus … but I forgot to get a picture before sending. :(

My other really fun project was a “Piggie” quilt for my nephew Tobias. We played a silly game on vacation were I would pretend to eat his toes. I found a wonderful pig fabric and could not resist making him a quilt. The words to “This little piggie” fit perfectly in the center as quilting. I fussy-cut one of the pigs and appliquéd him in the border. (yes – actually hand appliqué) I am hoping to send it to him next week! I wish I could see his face when he gets it, but will have to know all the cuddles they will share.

Summer, UFO’s and an Ottoman

Published on 07/06/12

Well, I am officially on summer break. I have the next 5 weeks off and I am planning on making the most of it.

I am working on 2 new curve-pieced projects but I will have to save those for later.

The first of about 15 UFO’s went on The Beast (name for my long-arm) today. I am planning on quilting at least half of the quilts on the long-arm and the others on my Bernina. Some of these quilts have been waiting 5 years to be finished.

I recently made my first slip cover. I found an old ottoman at an area thrift store for $5 and had planned to recover it, but instead used a stripped polyester shower curtain and made a slip-cover. I love it! It is the perfect colors for my living room and I can easily remove it to wash it. The two little dogs like sitting on it!

I also made a ribbon toy for my niece with my single fractured block. I love all the ribbons around it and she does too. I think I will start making these with my baby quilts to match for shower gifts.

I am still working on the postcards for Emma. On vacation, I got to hear her say all of her verses. Amazing what a 5 year old can learn!

Wedding Quilt Photo shoot

Published on 05/16/12

The wedding quilt is done with 3 days to spare! I finished the binding yesterday while watching Nexflix with the kids. It is in the wash today.

Emilie agreed to help with taking the photos. Warning – there are a lot of pictures. She took about 50 pictures, so it was super hard to limit it to 7. =)

So far it is still a surprise for the bride. She had talked to Emilie in February to see if maybe she would be getting one. At the time, I was up to my eyeballs in show stuff and Emilie told her that probably not since I was so busy. Em didn’t know that I had already started planning it.
