Another church baby – another quilt. Love making baby quilts. This time I raided my solids stash and added a cute theme print. I also had a little fun with the quilting. It is always fun to have a fun backing.
Bits & Pieces
Sweet baby girl
One of my co-worker’s wife just had baby number 6. I don’t always give quilts to co-workers when they have babies but Barry is an awesome guy. (Plus I had a sweet quilt top laying around and just waiting to be quilted) I also made a couple matching large receiving blankets.
Our quilt is at Fall Paducah
Our Opportunity quilt was accepted into the Fall Paducah AQS quilt show. We did not win any awards but our quilt will be in the 2019 AQS Quilt Engagement calendar!!
Both Cena and I were able to go and stand by our quilt.
What made this trip even more fun is that Mark, Jen and Dave (sister and her husband) and my parents all went to the show. It had been on my Mother’s bucket list to go to this show with my sister and I. We also went to the quilt museum which was AMAZING.

PQG 2018 opportunity quilt quilting process
So this post is all about the quilting. I am thrilled that Cena and Voe trusted me with the quilting. We had some design elements that we wanted to accent with the quilting but they just let me at it. It took about 3 1/2 months to quilt. We used a double 80/20 batting to accent the texture. I used about 12 different thread colors. To make the tension easier to control the bobbin color was also changed with each thread change.
The background was all about texture. The circular stars were each quilted differently to draw the viewer into the quilt.
PQG 2018 opportunity quilt design process
I had the privilege to be part of a 3 person team to design, piece and quilt the Pensacola Quilter’s Guild 2018 opportunity quilt.
Our quilt guild puts on a quilt show every other year. As a way to raise money we make a quilt and sell opportunities to win it. I have been involved with this project in the past but with a lot more people involved in the process and construction.
We met several times and I got to see the quilt grow on my design wall. We each had our design jobs. I started on the curve pieced background while Cena and Voe drafted out the stars. Once the background was “approved” by the committee, Cena and Voe went shopping. I got to piece the background. =) The next step was picking the stars that would be pieced, the size and approximate placement on the background. Cena and Voe did all the piecing of the circular star blocks. I am so glad we let it sit for awhile because we ended up changing the placement of the circular stars several times before settling on the final placement.
The next step was piecing in all the circles – also something that I love doing. Once the quilt top was pieced – it went to Cena and Voe for the appliqué.
