Church nurseries – infant room layout

Published on 09/16/15

Sorry it has been so long between posts…

My son helped me get my ideas on paper in a format that others (the building committee) would be able to visualize. He has played with a 3D program by Google called Sketch-up. He patiently worked with me as we tried to finalize ideas for the project.

These are some of the plans that we presented. Some of the plans changed as the project progressed but the main ideas stayed. The other benefit for this program was that I could plan my paint scheme and “see it” before painting anything.

Church nurseries – wall paint for toddler room

Published on 08/12/15

Our toddler room is for 2-3 year olds and is both a classroom and a play room.

The orange color is not as bright as some of the others. New attached image New attached image This taping job was a little more complicated and took more planning. The vertical lines were placed first – each line was increased by half of the one above it. It took 3 of us about 5 hours to finish this wall (24×10 feet). We used a blue painters tape that was almost 3 inches wide for the grid. I love the wide lines! New attached image

Church nurseries – wall paint for bathroom

There is a bathroom between the two rooms.

Since the space is smaller, I picked the wall that the sink and toilet would be on for our accent wall.

This design is so fun and super fast to tape and paint. The vertical lines are decided first and then an X is placed over the lines. I almost repainted it in red since the design turned out so subtle, but I did not want it to overtake the space.

Church nurseries – wall paint for infant room

In the infant room we chose a turquoise color as I wanted to add sea creature elements in the decorations. New attached image We had a little trouble with the tape because we were painting in 95% humidity in a building that did not have air conditioning yet. The walls were so wet that the tape had trouble sticking. We were not able to roll the paint on as planned but brushing it on worked fine. New attached image We used a large laser level to get the vertical lines and then added the slanted lines. I love that people see different things in the design – chevron, feathers, trees. I took 2 of us working about 6 hours to do it. (the wall was 24 feet long and 10 feet high)

The builders made us a new cubby wall unit that has 20 openings that we painted green. I love the contrast with the turquoise.

The red chairs are so cool against the wall color.

Church nurseries – a new beginning

Published on 07/29/15

Our church just finished a new auditorium that included 2 new nursery rooms- infants and toddlers with an adjoining bathroom. This project started about a year ago and we had our first service in the new building July 5th.

The nursery space doubled!!!! This was the original drawings for the nurseries. They did change a little bit once the project started, but not much.

Mark and I were able to design everything for the new space. Mark was a huge help in executing all the ideas that were flooding out of my head. This nursery so consumed my creative mind that very few quilts have been made this year.

We wanted each of the rooms to be unique but to work off the same color palate. We chose a grey for the base color and then added 4 accent colors.
