Story of this quilt
This quilt was created as a guild challenge. Our challenge was to make a small quilt which used at least 1 inch of the blue challenge fabric. The quilt was also to communicate the feeling of “blues”. The time of this challenge was a hard time for our family, as my son had been diagnosed with Asperger’s which is a form of autism. The writing in the quilting in the border is “Out of the darkness-a new day”.

This small quilt would be perfect for the little boy. The fractured center adds interest and dimension.
It would work well for a cuddle quilt or decorating the wall in the nursery. It is also the perfect size for a story mat. This is a tool we use in our 2-3 year old class we teach each Sunday. It gives each child a special place to sit.

Story of this quilt
This quilt started as a free-form drawing. The drawing stood out to me as flowers but many others have been birds as well. I love how quilting designs can be interpreted individually.
View detailsHand-dyed yellow pencil case
The piece of fabric for this bag was hand-dyed using a shaving cream marbling technique. I often do this with paint, but I was at a class and we used thickened dyes instead. My kids use this type of bag for their school pencil case – I use it for my scissors when going to classes. It is lined with a bright yellow batik.
