Bits & Pieces

Sunbonnet Sue 2

Published on 10/06/09

Well, the second Sue is quilted. I really like how the center turned out. I was hoping the thread would show a difference more in the outer section.

So much other stuff has been going on around here also. I took an awesome class last weekend on hand-dye techniques. I did marbling, painting with thickened dye, discharging, mono-printing and BATIKING! It was such a fun day and my friend Angie is such an awesome teacher.

Sunbonnet Sue 1

Published on 09/25/09

Mom sent me 2 small quilts that both have an “antique” applique Sunbonnet Sue. Her instructions were to quilt them both differently with my style. Here are pictures of the first one.

Success

Published on 09/18/09

I have finished piecing the quilt top that has been my obsession for the past 4 1/2 months. I have so enjoyed this project and am looking forward to the quilting. I love that at least 50% of the fabric were hand-dyed in our garage. I have included a photo of the completed top as well as the inspiration behind the quilt.

A lot of other things have been happening around here as well. The kids are all home-schooling this year. We are all having a great time and the kids are all doing so well. My youngest is going to a “Dame” school 3 x a week and then home with me the other two. It is a one room schoolhouse setting with 3-4 grades. He is loving it!

I also am going to be a Aunt again in the next few weeks. My youngest brother is having a baby. I can’t wait until they are old enough to send drums and other noise making toys! Here is a pic of the diaper bag I made. I haven’t made any bags for quite some time, so it was fun to work on one.

Progress

Published on 09/02/09

I am slowly but surely making progress on my quilt. I had to dye some more fabric this weekend for it – did not turn out just how I wanted but maybe it will add another element for it.
