For the past 2 years our family has made the decision to for-go our personal gifts and sponsor another family. Two years ago, with the help of several ladies from my church, we made 7 children’s quilts for a family who had taken in 4 foster children right before the holidays. Last year, we decided to anonymously give gifts to a family going through crisis – which of course included quilts and a stuffed animal.
This year, I have been burdened to make quilts for the children affected by the Alabama tornados earlier this year. Our church has been collecting house goods, furniture and clothing that they are taking up later this month. My goal is to make 20 quilts by Christmas and donate them to this area.
I have 2 quilts completed, as well as 2-3 un-quilted quilt tops made. I am hoping for a lot of help, because I know this task can not been done by just one person. My family has all decided to pitch in, which means helping clean the house and helping with basting! I am going to include the girls from the PinCushion Club (a sewing group of girls that meets with me once a month) to help with this project and hopefully get several of the ladies in my church involved.
